Everyday I walk 3-5 miles in Pittsburgh. I make it a point to walk on new streets, discovering new signs.
A number of years ago I taught in a workshop in Florida and a few students commiserated by saying how safe they felt in their neighborhoods in 2016 when they saw all the Trump signs pop up on neighbors’ lawns. Finally, they said, they didn't feel alone.
I want to dedicate this to all my neighbors within a four mile radius from my house in Pittsburgh who publicly denounce racism. Your Black Lives Matter signs, even if we have never met, remind me every day that I am not alone. La gente unida jamás será vencida.
